COVID-19 – Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme update 29 May 2020

The chancellor announced changes to the CJRS:

  • From 1 July 2020 employers will be able to bring previously furloughed employees back part time and still receive a grant for them for the time they are not working. The grant will continue as before – see earlier posts, but it will be 80% in August to a maximum of £2,500; 70% in September to a maximum of £2,187.50 (with employers making up at least the other 10%) and 60% in October to a maximum of £1,875  (with employers making up at least the other 20%);
  • From 1 August 2020 employers will have to start contributing to the wage costs of their furloughed staff – this contribution will gradually increase in September and October see above;
  • Note from 1 August 2020 employers will be responsible for employers NI and pension payments; and
  • The scheme will close to new entrants from 30 June 2020.
